The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced plans to conduct its annual maintenance on two 100MVA transformers at the Apo 132/33kV transmission substation in Abuja, which will result in temporary power outages across several areas in the city.

According to a statement issued on Friday by Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s spokesperson, the maintenance will be carried out on Saturday, February 22, and Sunday, February 23, 2025, between 9 am and 4 pm each day.

“Consequently, on Saturday, February 22, the National Hospital, G2 Injection Station, Garki, Area 1, and Asokoro will experience power interruption for seven hours, while on Sunday, February 23, Apo Legislative Quarters, Apo Resettlement, Gudu, Apo Mechanic, and surrounding areas will experience a seven-hour power interruption,” Mbah stated.

Okay.ng reports that the company explained the planned outages are unavoidable, as Abuja DisCo will not be able to receive bulk power supply from the transformers during the maintenance period.

Mbah assured residents and affected customers that power supply will be restored as soon as the maintenance exercise is completed. She also apologised for any inconvenience the outages may cause.

In a related development, TCN announced that its engineers in Kaduna have begun constructing a new switchyard for the 330kV Kaduna-Jos double circuit transmission line bay.

The company says upon completion the project will alleviate existing line limitations, increase grid flexibility, and enhance the reliability of power supply in the region.
