Taraba Governor Agbu Kefas Presents N311.4bn 2024 Budget to State Assembly

Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has presented the 2024 budget of N311,388,525,661.96 to the State House of Assembly.

Themed “Budget of Moving Forward,” the appropriation bill breaks down into N111,669,595,358.59 for recurrent expenditure, representing 39.5%, and N199,708,930,303.37 for capital expenditure, representing 64.1% of the total budget.

In the sectoral allocation, education takes the lead with N43,208,278,849.28, representing 13.9% of the budget. Health follows closely with an allocation of N33,546,686,848.00, representing 10.6%, and works allocated N24,804,232,263.17, representing 8.0%.

Governor Kefas outlined that the budget aligns with the five-finger agenda of his administration, focusing on education, security, women/youth development, infrastructure, and health. Specific emphasis will be placed on education, including teacher training and school improvement.

Kefas announced that 5% of the budget would be allocated to the Greening Taraba Project, aiming to preserve the natural beauty of the state and mitigate the effects of climate change.

Speaker of the House, John Kizito Bonzena, commended the positive working relationship between the executive and the legislature in the state. He assured a swift passage of the budget to adhere to the January-December timeframe.
