Sokoto state Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has raised concern over likely influx of bandits and cattle rustlers, who he said may be taking positions in Sokoto following their dislodgment from neighbouring Zamfara and Kebbi states by the Nigerian Army.

Speaking yesterday in Sokoto when he hosted both the newly-posted Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 10, and the state Commissioner of Police, Yakubu Usman and Abdulkadir Muhammed, Tambuwal urged the security chiefs to double surveillance, especially, in the borders of local government areas.

“As you are aware, the massive operation embarked upon by the Nigerian Army in our neighbouring states is achieving success. Many of those bandits have been killed in action or arrested, but many have run away, and we suspect that their first port of call would be towns and villages neighbouring the conflict areas.

“We appeal to you, and sister-security agencies, to double surveillance in such areas and ensure that lives and property and adequately protected.

“Sokoto is one of the most peaceful states, ifnot the most peaceful in the country, so we encourage you to sustain that peace for the benefit of the people”, Tambuwal said.

Tambuwal said the three states which make up Zone 10, have resolved to fully support the federal government’s efforts to enhance security and tackle corruption in the country.

“Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states are fully behind President Muhammadu Buhari’s drive to rid our country of insecurity and corruption. We will work together to ensure your success in this Zone. We will expand our areas of cooperation to ensure desired targets are met,” he added.
