The Supreme Court has unanimously affirmed Uba Sani of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the duly elected governor of Kaduna State, dismissing the appeal filed by Mohammed Ashiru of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for lacking merit.

In the lead judgment delivered by Justice Tijjani Abubakar, the court described the appeal as “frivolous and vexatious,” stating that the appellant “has nothing useful to ask this court.”

The dismissal solidifies Uba Sani’s victory in the March 18 governorship election, where he secured 730,001 votes against Ashiru’s 719,196 votes, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Following INEC’s declaration of Sani as the winner, the PDP and Ashiru contested the results, leading to a legal battle that reached the tribunal.

In September 2023, the tribunal panel, led by Victor Oviawie, dismissed the petition on technical grounds, deeming it abandoned due to the failure to file the pre-hearing application within the prescribed time.

In November 2023, the Court of Appeal affirmed Uba Sani’s election, and now, with the Supreme Court’s decision, the legal challenges to his victory have been conclusively resolved.
