The Department Security Services, better known as SSS, has warned the Rivers State governor, Chibuike Amaechi, and other politicians not to hide under the privileges of their offices to make exclamations that were against the general interest of the nation.

The army had earlier scolded Amaechi over his remarks justifying the decision of some soldiers to protest their lack of equipment in the fight against Boko Haram terrorists.

The governor has also been condemned by the government over his statements warning of consequences if the 2015 elections are rigged.

The Service in a statement delivered by the spokesperson of the SSS, Marilyn Ogar cautioned that such words would no longer be tolerated.

Ogar said the attention of the SSS had been drawn to inciting and unguarded statements and utterances by some politicians ahead of the 2015 presidential elections.

She said: “Of particular interest is the statement of a serving governor calling on men of the armed forces to rise up in protest against constituted authority.”

The spokesperson added such were made with the intent to weaken the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“Such actions are irresponsible, selfish and against our collective wellbeing as a nation,” she said. “It is noteworthy that similar unguarded provocative statements by politicians in the past had encouraged violence that resulted in loss of innocent lives and property. It is pertinent to note that no Nigerian is above the laws of this land.”

It was said that the statement served as a last warning to those seeking to shorten the nation’s democracy by their thoughtless and mischievous utterances and urge them to review their steps immediately.

“This Service and indeed all security agencies will not rest on their oars and are committed to the successful conduct of the 2015 general elections in Nigeria,” Ogar added.

Rotimi Amaechi was named the Director General of APC’s presidential campaign for 2015 election.

Amaechi among other national issues, spools out plans of the campaign organisation and also clears the air on complicated issues.
