Spotify, the leading music streaming platform, has unveiled its annual recap feature, Wrapped, offering users a personalized journey through their musical preferences in 2023.

This year’s Wrapped showcases the incredible diversity and passionate listening habits of Nigerian music enthusiasts, highlighting the country’s position as a global music powerhouse.

As the year draws to a close, Spotify Wrapped enables users to reflect on their favorite songs, artists, albums, and genres that defined their musical experience.

For the third consecutive year, Nigerian artists and songs dominate the charts, illustrating the nation’s pride in its music.

“Nigeria is a hotbed of musical talent, and we’re incredibly proud to showcase the diversity and passion of Nigerian music lovers through Wrapped,” said Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music, Sub-Saharan Africa.

“This year’s Wrapped is a testament to the power of music to connect people and bring them closer to the culture and traditions of Nigeria.”

In 2023, Nigerian music continued its global ascent, breaking barriers and reaching unprecedented heights. Rema, one of Afrobeats’ brightest stars, achieved a remarkable feat with his collaboration with Selena Gomez on “Calm Down,” becoming the first African-led single to reach a billion streams on Spotify.

This track also topped the global chart of most streamed recordings on Spotify, solidifying its position as a global musical phenomenon.

Rema and Asake emerged as global ambassadors of Afrobeats, with Rema earning the title of the most globally exported artist and Asake captivating audiences across Nigeria, Ghana, and Togo, making him the most streamed artist in each country.

The Spotify Wrapped data for Nigeria in 2023 reveals some intriguing insights:

  • Local music consumption in Nigeria soared by an impressive 284%.
  • Female artists in Nigeria experienced a remarkable 150% surge in average streams YoY.
  • Fridays at 3 pm emerged as the most popular time for Nigerians to indulge in their favorite tunes.
  • Rema topped the list of most searched queries, while Burna Boy claimed the first spot on both most searched and most viral artists. Asake’s “Lonely At The Top” secured the first position on the most viral tracks list.

In the podcast sphere, notable shows like “Apostle Joshua Selman,” “KOINONIA with Apostle Joshua Selman,” and “The HonestBunch Podcast” claimed the top spots, reflecting their popularity among Nigerian youths, especially Gen Zs and Millennials.

The full breakdown of the top Spotify Wrapped lists includes the most streamed artists, female artists, tracks, albums, playlists, and local podcasts in Nigeria, providing a comprehensive overview of the nation’s musical landscape in 2023.

Users can access their personalized 2023 Wrapped experience exclusively on the Spotify mobile app (iOS and Android) and the web view on mobile or desktop at Spotify.com/Wrapped.

Additionally, Spotify has launched the Wrapped creator experience for podcasters and artists, allowing them to explore how their fans engaged with their content throughout the year.

Creators can access their individualized Wrapped microsite experience through Spotify for Artists and Spotify for Podcasters.
