Today marks the 10th anniversary of Wizkid’s groundbreaking single, Ojuelegba, a track that played a pivotal role in the global rise of Afrobeats and continues to resonate with millions of listeners worldwide, Okay.ng reports.

To commemorate the song’s decade-long influence, Spotify has released a special anniversary film, highlighting Ojuelegba’s journey and its impact on the global music scene.

Since its release in 2014, the track has achieved over 55 million streams on Spotify, a milestone it reached in April 2024.

Wizkid’s Ojuelegba is not only celebrated for its widespread appeal, but also for its reach across diverse markets.

According to Spotify data, the song has consistently garnered attention from countries like the United States, United Kingdom, France, Nigeria, and the Netherlands, solidifying Wizkid’s status as one of Africa’s most influential artists.

In August 2024, Lagos emerged as the top city streaming Ojuelegba, fitting for a song that pays homage to one of the city’s most iconic neighborhoods. Following Lagos are London, Port Harcourt, Abuja, and Nairobi, showcasing the song’s enduring popularity in major cities across Wizkid’s home country and globally.

Ojuelegba has found a special place among younger audiences, with 43% of streams in the past year coming from listeners aged 18-24, while the 25-29 and 30-34 age groups accounted for 23% and 13% of streams, respectively.

This diverse listenership highlights the song’s continued relevance and appeal across generations.

Now, with over 55 million streams a decade later, Ojuelegba continues to be a symbol of the genre’s global growth.

More than just a hit, Ojuelegba is viewed as a cultural phenomenon. The song encapsulates Wizkid’s personal journey, blending the vibrant energy of Lagos street culture with a powerful message of resilience and hope.

It has served as an entry point for many international listeners into the world of Nigerian music, influencing artists and fans alike.

As Ojuelegba celebrates its 10th anniversary, it remains one of the most iconic Afrobeats tracks of all time, underscoring the growing influence of African music on the global stage.
