Nigerian singer Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, has appealed to fans to stop referring to her daughter, Adejare, as “Duduke,” Okay.ng reports.

Simi’s 2020 hit single “Duduke” became an anthem for expectant mothers across Nigeria, as it was released while she was pregnant with her first child.

Following the birth of her daughter in June 2020, many fans affectionately began calling the child “Duduke,” after the song.

However, in a recent conversation with VJ Adams, Simi clarified that “Duduke” was never meant to be a name and carries no particular meaning beyond its musical use as an onomatopoeia.

“People call my daughter Duduke, which I don’t like. That’s not her name. It doesn’t even mean anything. Had it meant something good, I would have allowed it. But it’s just a beat, duduke, duduke. That was what I meant. My heart beats like a drum,” she explained.

Despite her clear discomfort with the nickname, the singer acknowledged that fans mean no harm by it.

“Stop calling my child Duduke [laughs]. But you know what? I get it, it’s coming from a good place, so I try not to react,” she added.

Simi and her husband, fellow singer Adekunle Gold, welcomed Adejare during the peak of the Duduke song’s popularity. The couple has since shared glimpses of their journey into parenthood.
