Shell Companies in Nigeria have been recognized as the best local content operators at the 2022 annual industry dinner and awards ceremony of the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN), held in Port Harcourt.

The Managing Director of Shell’s deep-water business, Mrs. Elohor Aiboni, was also awarded the PETAN Chairman Outstanding Achievement Award. Her successor, Mr. Bayo Ojulari, received the PETAN Distinguished Achievement Award.

PETAN Chairman, Mr. Nicolas Odinuwe, praised Shell companies for their support of local service companies and their consistent efforts towards the growth of local content in Nigeria. He cited their role in driving pre-legislation initiatives and providing funding intervention to give start-ups in the service sector opportunities to participate in the oil and gas supply chain.

Upon receiving the award on behalf of Shell, Mr. Igo Weli, the Director of The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria and Head of Corporate Relations, expressed his pride in the recognition of Shell’s contributions to the Nigerian content story.

He added that Shell spent $800 million on contracts with Nigerian-registered companies in 2021, the same level as in 2020, and emphasized the company’s continued commitment to its operations in Nigeria.

The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) also highlighted Shell’s contributions to the indigenization of Nigerian content.

At the 11th Practical Nigerian Content Forum held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, the NCDMB Executive Secretary, Simbi Wabote, praised Shell for being the first international oil company in Nigeria to demonstrate belief in the capabilities of Nigerian companies and give them opportunities to participate fully in the industry.
