In a pointed message aimed at those in positions of authority, former Nigerian Senator Shehu Sani has warned leaders against the abuse of power, stressing the inevitability of accountability.

Taking to his official X account (formerly known as Twitter), Sani underscored the transient nature of power and the consequences that await those who misuse it.

“When you are in power, don’t get intoxicated with it. It’s a temporary privilege. Don’t abuse or misuse it,” he wrote, highlighting the fleeting nature of authority. The former senator’s remarks appeared to caution leaders against actions that may come back to haunt them when their tenure ends.

Sani further elaborated on the inevitability of justice for those who exploit their positions. “The evil you did to others will surely come back to you at the time you least expect it. When you unleashed evil while on the throne, evil shall await you at the exit of the throne.”

Using a vivid metaphor, the senator remarked, “A man in power is a knife, out of power becomes a piece of meat.”

Sani also emphasized the importance of remembering the future while in power. “When some people are in power, they forget that tomorrow will come and tomorrow surely comes,” he stated, urging leaders to act with humility and foresight.

In a final note, Sani warned about the harsh realities faced by former leaders who ruled with brutality. “When brutal Kings fall, they reap the fruits of their conduct and live at the mercy of the new Kings.”
