Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has announced his intention to return to the National Assembly in the 2027 general elections — but only if political conditions align in his favour.

Okay.ng reports that Sani made the declaration on Sunday while addressing supporters and journalists during his Eid-el-Fitr message at his residence in Kaduna.

“Any politician contesting an election depends on the political equation that determines the position to vie for,” Sani said. “If the conditions are right and the equations are favourable, I will offer myself to contest specifically for the Kaduna Central senatorial district.”

Sani served as Senator between 2015 and 2019. He left the All Progressives Congress (APC) after falling out with former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, a move that cost him his seat in the Red Chamber.

Speaking further, the rights activist-turned-politician said his current political priority is to support Governor Uba Sani’s second term bid.

“For now, our priority is to see that the incumbent governor, Uba Sani, is re-elected,” he said. “We will work with all our might and strength to achieve this. We know there will be challenges and opposition, but we are well prepared for all forces.”

Beyond politics, the former lawmaker used the opportunity to reflect on national security, urging Muslims and Nigerians in general to use the Eid-el-Fitr period to pray for peace and stability in the country.

He strongly condemned the recent killing of local hunters in Edo State, calling for swift action from the nation’s security agencies.

“If citizens cannot move freely across the country, then we are not truly a nation,” he said. “If individuals take the law into their hands for any reason, it means there is no government or authority.”

Sani concluded his remarks with a passionate appeal for national unity and respect for human rights, stressing that democratic progress can only be sustained if the government guarantees the safety and freedom of its citizens.
