Former Senator for Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has criticized the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), as well as the indefinite delay of his trial.

Sani expressed his disapproval, stating that holding Kanu for an extended period is unjust. Sharing his thoughts on X, the ex-lawmaker emphasized that injustice cannot lead to justice.

According to Sani: “Keeping a man in prolonged detention and postponing his case indefinitely is totally unfair. I know there are sentiments and fears but injustice is not the way to justice. A problem can’t be solved by stopping the clock. I have been in prolonged prison to know the pains and anguish of isolation. Until you experience the cell you will never know the cell. Just my personal view.”

This development follows Justice Binta Nyako of the Abuja Federal High Court indefinitely adjourning Kanu’s trial.

Previously, Justice Nyako withdrew from the case last year after Kanu requested her removal from his trial.

However, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, John Tsoho, declined to transfer Kanu’s case to a different judge, instead instructing Justice Nyako to proceed with the trial.

Kanu is currently being prosecuted on terrorism-related charges by the Nigerian government due to his advocacy for Biafra’s independence.
