The political crisis engulfing local government councils in Osun State has prompted the state’s three senators to seek the intervention of President Bola Tinubu. Senators Francis Fadahunsi, Olubiyi Fadeyi, and Oyewumi Kamorudeen, all members of the Peoples Democratic Party, have jointly appealed to the president to help resolve the dispute that has caused instability at the grassroots level.

In a statement made public in Osogbo on Saturday, the senators expressed concern about the impact of the crisis on ordinary citizens who rely on effective local government administration for essential services.

“We are writing to respectfully appeal to you to intervene in the lingering political crises that have been ongoing within the local government administration in Osun State. This situation has created considerable instability, and we deem it important to seek your fatherly consideration,” the statement said.

The lawmakers acknowledged the judiciary’s rulings but emphasized that the president’s involvement could bring a lasting resolution. They pointed out that alternative dispute resolution is increasingly recognized as a constructive way to settle political conflicts.

“We are aware of your concern for the ordinary Nigerian and particularly those at the grassroots, who are most affected by this crisis, which is the reason we seek your urgent and dispassionate intervention,” they added.

The senators appealed to President Tinubu’s democratic principles and urged him to act as a unifying figure above partisan politics. They also called on traditional rulers, elder statesmen, and respected members of the Osun community to join the call for peace.

“Mr President, we the Senators from Osun State know you to be a democrat, and we plead that you bring your wealth of democratic experience into resolving this political logjam. We want you, as usual, to demonstrate that you are the father of all, irrespective of our political affiliations,” the statement concluded.

The crisis has stalled local government operations and threatens to undermine grassroots development in Osun State, highlighting the need for urgent intervention.
