The Senate has suspended Senator Abdul Ningi for a period of three months following his allegation regarding his claim that the 2024 Budget was padded to the tune of N3.7 trillion.

The decision was reached during a session on Tuesday on the floor of the Senate, which saw heightened tensions as the issue was addressed.

Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, a member of the Appropriation Committee representing Ondo South Senatorial District, initiated the motion for Ningi’s suspension. He cited the need to address misinformation and breaches of peace within the National Assembly and the country at large.

Ibrahim also proposed that the Senate issue a warning to Senator Suleiman Kawu representing Kano South Senatorial District for posting inciting information on social media and demand an apology from him.

Senator Ede Dafinone, representing Delta Central Senatorial District, seconded Ibrahim’s motion, prompting Senate President Godswill Akpabio to announce the motion on the floor of the Senate.
