In a compassionate response to a tragic motor accident that claimed the lives of 22 Kano athletes, Deputy Senate President Senator Barau Jibrin made a condolence visit to the families on Tuesday in Kano.

The gathering took place at the Gwagwarwa Juma’a Mosque in Nasarawa Local Government Area, where Senator Jibrin, accompanied by dignitaries including Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development Yusuf Atta and NWDC Managing Director Professor Abdullahi Shehu Ma’aji, met with the grieving families.

Senator Jibrin described the accident as a “tragic and devastating incident” that has left a deep void in the sports community, Kano State, and the nation. “We are here to register our condolences to you over this tragic and devastating incident that led to the loss of our brothers,” he said.

He urged acceptance of the loss as divine will and prayed, “May Allah SWT grant them Aljannatul Firdausi and give you all the strength to bear these irreparable losses.”

As a gesture of solidarity and support, Senator Jibrin announced a donation of N1 million to each family, totaling N22 million. This financial aid is intended to assist the families during this difficult time.

The Chief Imam of the mosque, Sheikh Adda’u Aliyu, along with ward heads Usman Aliyu and Rabe Isyaku, welcomed the delegation. The Chief Imam expressed gratitude on behalf of the community, noting, “We are happy and excited that you have found time to come here and sympathise with us. This means a lot to us. We can always see your tremendous interventions and projects going beyond your Senatorial District. May Almighty Allah reward you abundantly.”

The visit ended with special prayers for the souls of the departed athletes, emphasizing the community’s collective sorrow and hope for peace.
