The President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, on Tuesday said the National Assembly was focusing on 11 bills that would bring the country out of current economic recession.

Saraki made this known in Abuja at the 22nd Nigerian Economic Summit: National Assembly Business Roundtable on Ensuring a Legislative Framework for Made-in-Nigeria.

He said that the assembly was committed to pushing the bills to ensure that they transformed the country’s economy, adding that the legislature was also pro-business and pro-private sector.

He said that key bills the senate was taking seriously to see passed into law within one year were procurement, transportation, Petroleum Industry Bill, among others.

He said that the PIB was delayed due to the unrest in the Niger Delta.

He said, “We are treating the issue of the economy with urgency and in Procurement Act Amendment, we have made provision to protect the interest of Made-in-Nigeria.”

Saraki added that the NASSBER was a robust platform promoting the National Assembly and Private Sector partnership.

Fielding questions from newsmen shortly after, he said that the senate was yet to receive any bill on economic powers for the executive from President Muhammadu Buhari as being speculated.
