Senate President Godswill Akpabio has escalated his dispute with Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan by filing an official petition with the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, regarding her assassination allegations, okay.ng reports.

Akpabio’s petition demands a full investigation into Akpoti-Uduaghan’s claims, which he vehemently denies as false and defamatory. He is also seeking her prosecution for what he describes as a malicious and unfounded accusation.

The allegations stem from a public address by Akpoti-Uduaghan on April 1, 2025, in Kogi State, where she accused Akpabio of orchestrating a plot with former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello to assassinate her, with the intent of framing her constituents for the crime.

Akpabio has categorically rejected these allegations as fabricated and an attempt to damage his reputation. He argues that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s statements are politically motivated, designed to incite unrest and tarnish his public image. He further contends that there is no factual basis for her claims and highlights the widespread dissemination of the accusations across various media platforms.

In addition to the police petition, Akpabio has also forwarded his complaint to the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi. He is requesting a comprehensive investigation and criminal prosecution of Akpoti-Uduaghan under laws pertaining to defamation, false accusations, and incitement to violence, citing the urgency of the situation to protect his reputation and ensure public safety. This development follows a previous controversy where Akpoti-Uduaghan accused Akpabio of sexual harassment, which resulted in her suspension from the Senate for misconduct, further fueling the ongoing political tensions.
