Senate Confirms 12 Members for CBN Monetary Policy Committee

The Senate has officially confirmed 12 individuals to serve as members of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Monetary Policy Committee, following a rigorous screening process and subsequent report submission by the Senate Committee Chairman on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions, Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, representing Lagos East Senatorial District.

Senator Abiru presented the committee’s report to the Chamber, affirming that all nominees, as proposed by President Bola Tinubu, had been extensively screened.

He assured that the nominees had not been implicated in any adverse reports from the Department of State Services (DSS), Police findings, or the Code of Conduct Bureau.

Highlighting the nominees’ esteemed banking backgrounds, Senator Abiru emphasized their suitability for the Committee, stating, “That the Senate do receive and consider the report of the Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions on the confirmation of the nomination of the following 12 persons as Members of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The confirmed members of the Monetary Policy Committee include:

  1. Olayemi Cardoso – Chairman
  2. Muhammad Sani Abdullahi – Member
  3. Bala M. Bello – Member
  4. Emem Usoro – Member
  5. Philip Ikeazor – Member
  6. Lamido Yuguda – Member
  7. Jafiya Lydia Shehu – Member
  8. Murtala Sabo Sagagi – Member
  9. Aloysius Uche Ordu – Member
  10. Aku Pauline Odinkemelu – Member
  11. Mustapha Akinwumi – Member
  12. Bandele A.G. Amoo – Member

Following deliberations by Senators and contributions to the report, the Chamber proceeded into the Committee of the Whole, where all nominees were unanimously confirmed by Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

In his closing remarks, the Senate President commended the Chairman and members of the Committee for their thorough and efficient handling of the screening process.

He expressed confidence in the competence of the confirmed members and conveyed optimism regarding their contributions to the CBN Monetary Policy Committee for the betterment of the nation.
