Senate Approves 300% Pay Rise for CJN, Judicial Officers

The Senate has approved a 300% salary increase for judicial officers at both federal and state levels.

The approval came on Wednesday, following the consideration and adoption of an executive bill transmitted by President Bola Tinubu.

The bill, titled “A Bill for an Act to Prescribe the Salaries, Allowances and Fringe Benefits of Judicial Office Holders in Nigeria and for Related Matters”, was presented by Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno (APC- Borno North), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, and Legal Matters.

The approved salaries and allowances include:

– Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN): total monthly package of ₦5,385,047.26
– Justices of the Supreme Court: total package of ₦4,213,192.54
– President of the Court of Appeal: monthly package of ₦4,478,415.78
– Justices of the Court of Appeal: total monthly package of ₦3,726,665.40
– Chief Judge of the Federal High Court: total monthly package of ₦3,527,022.61
– President of the National Industrial Court: total monthly package of ₦3,527,022.61
– Chief Judge of the FCT High Court: total monthly package of ₦3,527,022.61
– Grand Khadi, FCT Sharia Court of Appeal: total monthly package of ₦3,527,022.61
– President of Customary Court of Appeal: total monthly package of ₦3,527,022.61
– Chief Judge of state High Court: total monthly package of ₦3,527,022.61
– Grand Khadi of State Sharia Court of Appeal: total monthly package of ₦3,527,022.61
– President of state Customary Court of Appeal: total monthly package of ₦3,527,022.61
