In a gesture of support and encouragement, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos hosted the Super Eagles squad to a grand send-off dinner on Tuesday evening.

The event took place at the Lagos State/Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Send Forth ceremony, signaling the team’s departure for the upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Super Eagles had recently concluded their pre-tournament training camp in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, before heading to Lagos for the special event hosted by Governor Sanwo-Olu.

Expressing his honor in hosting the national team, Governor Sanwo-Olu shared his heartfelt prayers for the success of the Super Eagles in the AFCON 2023 tournament. He encouraged the players to play with passion, unity, and determination, emphasizing that they carry the hopes of a nation on their shoulders.

In a post on X, Governor Sanwo-Olu stated, “My prayers are with our team for strength, resilience, and unity on this journey. To the Super Eagles: You carry the hopes of a nation on your shoulders. As you represent us at the AFCON 2023, may you play with passion, unity, and determination. Make Nigeria proud and bring the cup home.”

The send-off dinner served as a platform for the governor to convey his best wishes to the team, urging them to give their best performance in the tournament and make the country proud.

The Super Eagles are set to depart the country on Wednesday morning, gearing up for their opening game against Equatorial Guinea on January 14. The team is placed in Group A, alongside Equatorial Guinea, Ivory Coast, and Guinea-Bissau.
