Manchester United’s recent performance against Everton has drawn sharp analysis from Rúben Amorim, whose remarks, echoed by Utd District through its official X (formerly Twitter) account, highlight the frustrations and lessons from the match.

Following the game, Amorim did not shy away from pinpointing the critical errors that led to United’s downfall, particularly their carelessness in possession.

“I see what the players saw, they know, and what people see. We lost a lot of balls without any pressure,” he admitted. His words underscored a recurring issue in United’s gameplay—avoidable mistakes that provided Everton with the upper hand.

The Portuguese coach elaborated on the structural lapses that left United vulnerable, emphasizing their failure to adhere to proper positioning.

“We have free men, sometimes we don’t respect the positioning,” Amorim stated, noting that such errors played directly into Everton’s strengths.

The Toffees, well-known for their effectiveness in capitalizing on loose balls, made the most of United’s lapses, punishing them with two crucial goals.

“Anyone who watched a little bit of Everton in this spell knows that they will be really good at second balls, and the two goals are from second balls,” he added.

Despite his disappointment, Amorim acknowledged the effort his players put in. He recognized the team’s fighting spirit but lamented the fact that their struggles in the first half had already left them chasing the game.

“They are fighting and that’s why you get disappointed,” he said, conveying both his frustration and his belief in the squad’s work ethic.

However, the United boss was keen to highlight the positives from the match, particularly the shift in performance after halftime.

“We didn’t play first half but then it’s a good thing… let’s not just focus on the negatives… it’s a good thing in the second half,” Amorim stated.

He pointed out that despite the early setbacks, his team showed signs of improvement, bringing more intensity and sharper execution as the game progressed.

His final remarks reflected an attempt to draw optimism from the match while emphasizing the importance of maintaining discipline and energy throughout the game.

“We are playing the same positioning and it’s more energy, more quality, and that makes the difference,” Amorim concluded, stressing that when executed correctly, their system has the potential to deliver better results.
