The Rivers State House of Assembly on Wednesday officially withdrew the impeachment notice previously issued to Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Okay.ng learnt that the House’s session was solely dedicated to addressing the withdrawal of the impeachment notice against Governor Fubara.

This decision comes in the wake of a mediated truce brokered between the warring parties by President Bola Tinubu in a meeting held at the Aso Villa in Abuja on Monday.

The lawmakers, in a notice read on the house floor, attributed their decision to withdraw the impeachment notice to a gesture of respect towards President Tinubu.

The contentious conflict between Governor Fubara and Nyesom Wike, the former governor and incumbent Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, led to a division among lawmakers in the House.

Notably, 27 legislators defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the ruling All Progressives Congress, exacerbating the political schism within the Assembly.

The feud witnessed a series of dramatic events, including parallel sittings, the exposure of an impeachment plot against Governor Fubara, the demolition of the Assembly complex, and a wave of resignations among pro-Wike commissioners from Governor Fubara’s cabinet.
