The Nigerian Red Cross Society, Anambra State branch, in collaboration with the European Union, has distributed relief materials to residents of flood-affected communities in the state, okay.ng reports.

The distribution, which took place from April 17 to 19, targeted vulnerable populations in Ogbaru, Anambra West, and Ayamelum Local Government Areas, following the devastating floods of 2024.

According to a statement released on Tuesday by the Branch Secretary of the Nigerian Red Cross, Kingsley Okoye, the exercise focused on the provision of dignity kits and essential hygiene items. He noted that the intervention aimed to restore a sense of dignity and improve the overall hygiene and comfort of those affected by the disaster.

“This initiative was generously sponsored by the European Union and focused on delivering dignity kits to individuals and families most impacted by the flood,” Okoye said.

He explained that the relief effort was carried out by Red Cross officials, programme officers, and a committed team of volunteers from the Anambra branch. During the three-day outreach, hundreds of beneficiaries were reached across the targeted local government areas.

The distributed dignity kits contained hygiene essentials designed to support daily living and enhance the well-being of recipients, with particular consideration for the needs of women and girls.

Beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the assistance, with many describing the aid as timely and impactful. Okoye emphasized that the effort not only addressed immediate hygiene concerns but also reaffirmed the Red Cross and its partners’ dedication to standing with affected communities during emergencies.
