Qing Madi, the rising Nigerian music sensation, has been named Spotify’s EQUAL Africa Artist for January 2025, reaffirming the platform’s commitment to amplifying exceptional female talent across the continent.

This marks Qing Madi’s second recognition under Spotify’s EQUAL program, having previously featured on the EQUAL playlist. The honor solidifies her position as a trailblazer in the African music industry.

Spotify Wrapped data for 2024 showcased Qing Madi’s immense popularity. She ranked among the most-streamed female artists in both Nigeria and Ghana, while her hit song, American Love, was the second most-streamed song in Uganda. She stands tall alongside other African EQUAL artists such as Tyla, Ayra Starr, and Amaarae, making her one of the continent’s leading voices in music.

Qing Madi’s artistic journey began at the age of five, nurtured by the unwavering support of her mother and inspired by music icons like Kendrick Lamar. Her breakout moment came with the viral success of See Finish, which cemented her presence in the Nigerian music industry.

In 2024, she expanded her influence with the release of her Qing Madi album, a heartfelt exploration of first loves and self-discovery.

The album’s deluxe version added standout tracks such as a remix of Vision featuring Chloe Bailey, the Kizz Daniel-assisted YBIL (You Believe in Love), and the poignant Sins For U. She capped off the year with the release of Goosebumps, further showcasing her versatility.

Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa, praised Qing Madi as a phenomenal talent:
“Qing Madi is a phenomenal talent whose music resonates deeply with audiences both in Africa and beyond. We are thrilled to see her return as an EQUAL artist and can’t wait to see her continue breaking boundaries and inspiring the next generation of artists.”

Reacting to the recognition, Qing Madi expressed her gratitude: “It’s an incredible feeling to start the year with such significant recognition. Being part of the EQUAL program again means a lot to me, and I’m grateful for Spotify’s support in highlighting the voices of African women.”
