Former President Muhammadu Buhari has reinforced his close relationship with President Bola Tinubu through a warm phone call on Tinubu’s birthday.
During the Friday conversation, Buhari joined in the nationwide celebration, offering prayers and well wishes for Tinubu’s health, longevity, and successful leadership. “When we pray for our leaders, we are praying for ourselves and the nation. We owe this to ourselves and the nation,” Buhari told Tinubu, as conveyed in a statement by Garba Shehu, his Senior Special Assistant, Media and Publicity.
Buhari expressed gratitude to Tinubu and other APC leaders for their crucial roles in forming the All Progressives Congress, which enabled his two-term presidency after previous unsuccessful attempts. He also acknowledged their support in Tinubu’s own successful presidential bid.
“No doubt, the annals of the country will not be complete without bringing into mention, and a recognition of the varied and numerous roles of President Tinubu as an entrepreneur, a party stalwart, a staunch activist, party organizer, party builder, a reliable ally and a serial winner of democratic elections. I am truly proud of my association with the Asiwaju,” Buhari stated.
He reflected on the APC’s 2015 victory, emphasizing its mandate to build a better future for all Nigerians. “When Nigerians handed the baton of leadership to the APC in 2015, it was a mandate to lay the foundation for a new Nigeria where the poor get opportunities for a better future and I am glad that the vision is not lost. It was a victory of all those who wish the country’s good,” he said.
Buhari concluded by extending his best wishes to Tinubu, his family, and the nation for a successful conclusion to Ramadan and a joyous Eid celebration.
