The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, will represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the upcoming 2024 US-Africa Business Summit in Dallas, Texas.

The high-profile event, taking place at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center from May 8-10, aims to foster economic cooperation and investment opportunities between the United States and African nations.

Tuggar’s attendance comes after Vice President Kashim Shettima, who was originally scheduled to represent President Tinubu, was forced to cancel due to a technical issue with his aircraft that required an unplanned detour on the advice of the Presidential Air Fleet.

“The Vice President will carry on with other national duties,” stated Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the release.

The three-day US-Africa Business Summit is expected to draw numerous political and business leaders from across the African continent and beyond. Among the heads of state slated to attend are President Joseph Boakai of Liberia, President Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi, President Joao Lourenço of Angola, President Mokgweetsi E.K. Masisi of Botswana, President José Maria Neves of Cabo Verde, and Deputy Prime Minister Nthomeng Majara of Lesotho.

The summit will feature high-level dialogues, networking sessions and plenaries aimed at strengthening economic ties and encouraging investments between the U.S. and Africa. Key areas of focus are likely to include energy, infrastructure, technology and agriculture.
