The Nasarawa State Government has officially confirmed that all necessary arrangements have been finalized to welcome President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Lafia on Wednesday, June 25, for the commissioning of several major infrastructure projects initiated by Governor Abdullahi Sule.
Dr. Tanko Ibrahim, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, disclosed this update during a press briefing held in Lafia on Tuesday. He detailed the president’s itinerary, stating that upon arrival at the Usman Danfodio Airport in Lafia, President Tinubu will proceed directly to inaugurate the newly constructed under/overhead bridge in the state capital.
“The president will be received at the Usman Danfodio Airport in Lafia and will proceed to commission the under/overhead Lafia bridge. After which, the president will pay homage to the Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Bage, rtd, at his palace,” Dr. Ibrahim said.
Okay.ng reports that following the bridge commissioning and the Emir’s palace visit, the president will launch a fleet of newly acquired tractors aimed at boosting agricultural productivity in the state. Additionally, he will inaugurate the Shendam dual carriageway, a critical road infrastructure project designed to ease traffic flow and enhance connectivity within Nasarawa.
The visit will also feature the commissioning of the ultra-modern state secretariat complex located along Shendam Road, a project that underscores the government’s commitment to improving administrative efficiency and public service delivery.
Concluding the day’s activities, President Tinubu will engage in a town hall meeting with key stakeholders at the Aliyu Akwe Doma Banquet Hall within the Government House precinct, also situated on Shendam Road.
Dr. Ibrahim emphasized that all these projects were fully funded by the current administration under Governor Abdullahi Sule, without resorting to external loans or borrowing, highlighting the government’s prudent financial management.
He further called on residents of Lafia and the wider Nasarawa State to come out in large numbers to receive President Tinubu warmly, reflecting the community’s support for the ongoing development agenda.
In preparation for the presidential visit, the Nasarawa State Police Command has announced temporary traffic diversions and movement restrictions within Lafia to ensure security and smooth conduct of the event.
Rahman Nansel, the Police Public Relations Officer, stated in a release that from Tuesday evening, June 24, through Wednesday morning, June 25, movement will be restricted between 6:00 pm and 6:00 am. “Vehicles coming into Lafia from the Akwanga axis would be diverted at Mechanic Village, Azuba, to pass through the bypass, Akurba, Mararaba Akunza, and connect to the Makurdi Road,” he explained.
Similarly, motorists approaching from the Makurdi axis will be rerouted at Bukan Kwato–Mararaba Akunza to link Akurba and Azuba, ensuring minimal disruption while maintaining security protocols.
The police assured the public that adequate personnel have been deployed by Commissioner of Police Shetima Jauro-Mohammed to safeguard all designated routes and guarantee a safe and successful visit.
“We regret any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate the support of residents and motorists during this period,” the statement concluded. The police also urged the public to cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies, noting that these measures are in place purely for public safety.
