Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has assured Nigerians that the current shortfall in power supply in parts of the country would soon be over, following the resolution of the controversy that stalled the formal commencement of operation of the Independent Power Plant, Geometric Power, at Osisioma, Abia State.

He also said this is premised on the progress being made at the Ikot Ekpene transmission station in Akwa Ibom State. The minister who gave the assurance when he visited Governor Okezie Ikpeazu at the Government House, Umuahia, at the beginning of his two-day official visit to the state, said the administrative hiccup of Geometric Power was resolved through the intervention of the Acting President Yemi Osinbajo and assured consumers that the plant would soon begin 24 hours power supply to the commercial city of Aba.

Fashola said he embarked on the official tour to enable him to assess the progress of work by contractors handling federal road projects in the state. He added that the objective of the government was to rebuild the economy of the nation through provision of infrastructure so that each state can use the opportunities to contribute to the growth of the nation.

He said that the Federal Government had nine ongoing road projects in the state, among which are rehabilitation and reconstruction of Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway, Section 2, the Abiriba-Arochukwu Road and Aba-Ikot Ekpene Road.

Responding, Ikpeazu said his administration was ready to assist the Federal Government to provide good and accessible roads to Nigerians According to him, his administration understood the importance of good roads in promoting trade and commerce, which he said is one of the five pillars of his government.
