The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his administration’s dedication to educational reforms, specifically the recent policy granting full-time Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates the opportunity to participate in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.

NAPS considers this decision a watershed moment, reflecting the government’s commitment to fairness, inclusivity, and the advancement of quality education within the polytechnic sector.

Comrade Eshiofune Paul Oghayan, the national president of NAPS, also acknowledged the pivotal role of the Minister of Education, Dr. Mamud Olatunji Alausa. He praised the minister’s responsiveness and proactive leadership, noting his unwavering passion in addressing the concerns of polytechnic students. Oghayan emphasized that the minister’s resolve, coupled with the collaborative efforts of key stakeholders, culminated in this long-awaited and impactful resolution.

He highlighted the persistent advocacy by NAPS, both under his leadership and that of his predecessor, Comrade Munirudeen Ridwan Opeyemi, which involved strategic engagements with critical institutions. These engagements, including visits to the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), and other relevant agencies, were instrumental in achieving this positive outcome. “Today, we celebrate the triumph of persistence, advocacy, and a steadfast dedication to the welfare of students,” Oghayan stated.

NAPS extended its appreciation to all government bodies, agencies, and individuals who contributed to this achievement. Special recognition was given to the NBTE for its commitment to ensuring a seamless mobilization process, the cooperative spirit of polytechnic rectors, and the support from various education stakeholders.

The association issued a strong advisory to all students, urging them to adhere strictly to the NYSC’s mobilization guidelines to prevent any complications. “Students are strongly advised to carefully consider these guidelines when making academic choices, as their decisions will directly impact their eligibility for the NYSC program. The association will not be held responsible for any issues arising from non-compliance with these directives,” Oghayan cautioned.

“As we celebrate this significant victory, we encourage all eligible full-time HND graduates to seize this opportunity and proceed with their mobilization without delay. This achievement stands as a testament to the power of collective advocacy, and we reaffirm our commitment to championing the interests of polytechnic students nationwide,” he concluded.
