Police, Youths Clash in Kogi, 3 Confirmed Dead

Three persons were killed following clash between youths and the police in Idah Local Government Area of Kogi State.

Daily Trust on Sunday learnt that trouble began when an argument ensued among some youths who were contracted to offload fertilizers despatched to the area for farmers.

“What really happened is that the government sent down eight trailers of fertilizers to Idah. In the process of offloading the content, a fight broke out among the youths and one of them was killed.

“When the police came to intervene, the youths started attacking them and in return, the police fired back and killed two other persons bringing the death toll to three”, a witness who pleaded anonymity said.

It was further alledged that the angry youths poured acid on a policeman during the crisis.

Our correspondent learnt that the incident locked down Idah for several hours before normalcy was restored.

When contacted, Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Mr Ibrahim Chafe, said investigation was ongoing into the incident. Idah has witnessed violent clashes and other crimes in recent times.

On April 22, a clash between two rival cult groups led to the death of 13 persons just as there have been recorded cases of kidnappings along the Idah-Ajegwu road.
