The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the successful rescue of 20 medical students and others who were abducted in Benue State on August 15, 2024. According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, the victims were rescued on Friday by the office of the National Security Adviser without any ransom being paid.

Okay.ng had reported how the students, who were on their way to a medical convention, were kidnapped by unknown gunmen and held in the Ntunkon forest, ADO Local Government Area of Benue state. Their captors had demanded a ransom of ₦50 million to secure their release.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, had ordered the prompt deployment of resources to ensure the swift rescue of the victims. The rescue operation involved the use of advanced helicopters, drones, and specialized tactical vehicles.

The police have commended the security agencies, locals, and the Office of the National Security Adviser for their commitment and resilience in securing the release of the hostages. The Force has also appealed to the public to provide useful information and actionable intelligence to aid in the ongoing investigation.
