The Benue State Police Command has officially confirmed the deaths of 17 people following coordinated attacks by suspected herders on communities in Logo and Ukum Local Government Areas. The incidents occurred between Thursday night and Friday morning.

Police spokesperson Catherine Anene stated, “On 17/4/2025 at about 2100hrs, information was received that a large number of suspected militia had invaded Sankera axis of Benue State with intention to attack communities around Gbagir, Ukum Local Government Area.” She added that tactical teams were immediately deployed to reinforce officers and collaborate with other security agencies to repel the attackers.

Despite the intervention, five victims were found dead in Gbagir and twelve more were killed in Logo before police arrived, bringing the total fatalities to 17. The assailants reportedly retreated into forests near the Taraba axis as security forces continued their pursuit.

Anene also cautioned the public against spreading unverified information, emphasizing the police’s commitment to restoring peace. She urged residents to cooperate with law enforcement as operations continue.
