The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo on Tuesday said President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to the state would boost the party’s chances at Saturday’s governorship election.

Mr. Buhari is in Benin to attend the party’s grand finale campaign rally at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin ahead of Sept. 10 governorship election in Edo.

The party chairman in the state, Anselm Ojezua, said the president’s visit would boost the party’s chances at the polls.

Mr. Ojezua, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the main bowl of the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium, in Benin, said this was in spite of the fact that the party and its candidate, Godwin Obaseki, had prepared well.

“But the president gracing the final rally will no doubt further enhance the chances of the party at the poll,’’ he said.

The chairman said the president “will not be oblivious of the fact that his visit is important being his first major governorship poll to be conducted since assumption of office on May 29, 2015.

“As for us, we have worked hard for the election, but the visit of Mr President today, Tuesday, is going to be an added advantage to us,” he said.

Mr. Buhari arrived the Benin airport at 10: 20AM Tueday. He led other notable party members to visit the crown prince and the Ediaken of Uselu, Eheneden Erediauwa, at his palace at Uselu.

Meanwhile, APC supporters, in their numbers, started arriving at the stadium, the venue of the rally as early as 7.00 a.m.

NAN reports that prominent members of the party already at the stadium are the former Deputy Governor of Edo, Peter Obadan, the state Chairman of the party, Anselm Ojezua, and Great Ogboru from Delta.

Others are the speaker, Edo House of Assembly, Justin Okunobor, former Gov. Oserheimen Osunbor, and governorship aspirant, Chris Ogiewonyi.
