UK newspaper, The Guardian confirms that at least 11 people have died and several others have been left injured after two explosions occurred at Brussels Airport in a suspected terror attack. According to reports, the explosions took place in the departure hall of the Airline at about 8am local time, leaving dismembered bodies everywhere.

Reports indicate that some people spoke Arabic before the two explosions occurred and shots were fired in the aftermath. In the aftermath of the explosions thousands of people waiting for flights this morning were penned inside the terminal as police sealed off the shattered arrivals hall.

Smoke could be seen billowing from the roof of the airport as TV pictures showed people fleeing the terminal. The airport has since been closed and people have been advised not to come to the area.

According to a witness, the first explosion took place in the departure lounge, followed by another just a few seconds later. “The ambulances arrived slowly, people were evacuated, there was a lot of smoke,” the witness said. She also stated that many of the injured were wearing uniforms of Brussels airport and Brussels airlines.

A few minutes after the explosions at the airport, an explosion has detonated at a Metro station in Brussels.

Maalbeek Metro Station is in central Brussels and is situated near EU buildings. Eye witnesses have reported being evacuated after the station filled with smoke.

Photos posted to social media appear to show people running out of the station and into the adjoining street, surrounded by smoke.

The blast follows two explosions at Zaventem Airport in Brussels this morning shortly before 8am local time (7am GMT). At least one person has died and several others are seriously injured.

The explosions come just a day after the Belgium Interior Minister warned of possible revenge attacks after the arrest of Paris terror attack suspect Salah Abdeslam in the city last week.
