Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 Presidential Election, has refuted speculations suggesting his departure from the party. Speaking at Pantami Sheep Market in Gombe State, where he inaugurated a borehole project, Obi reiterated his commitment to the party’s values and advocated for peaceful conflict resolution within its ranks.

Addressing the gathering, Obi emphasized his ongoing efforts to address the needs of communities across the country, particularly during the Ramadan fasting period observed by Muslim faithful. He stressed the importance of providing essential amenities to support livelihoods and enhance the well-being of citizens.

Okay.ng understands that the Labour Party has been embroiled in internal disputes, notably centered around the tenure of Julius Abure as LP chairman. Despite conflicting opinions within the party regarding Abure’s leadership, a recent national convention purportedly reaffirmed his position, a decision contested by several party members and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

The tension within the party underscores broader challenges facing political organizations in Nigeria, where power struggles and factionalism often impede progress and unity. However, Obi’s reaffirmation of his allegiance to the Labour Party signals a commitment to navigate through these challenges and uphold the party’s principles.
