The National Pension Commission (PenCom) has disclaimed the Association of Pension Desk Practitioners of Nigeria (ASSOPEP) for engaging in illicit activities in the pension industry.

PenCom noted that ASSOPEP claims to resolve pension issues and help retirees secure their retirement benefits, which is entirely false as the association has no affiliation with the pension industry and no authorization from PenCom.

In a statement signed by PenCom management on 7th April 2023, the commission warned the public to be cautious of any promises or claims made by ASSOPEP regarding pension and retirement benefits.

The commission also strongly advised workers, retirees, pension desk officers, and everyone approached by the association to exercise caution in their dealings with ASSOPEP as any interaction with the association is at their own risk.

“Licensed Pension Fund Operators (LPFOs), who are statutorily mandated to undertake the processing and payment of retirement benefits, are not associated with ASSOPEP in any way,” the statement read.

PenCom further reported the activities of ASSOPEP to law enforcement agencies for appropriate action.

The commission reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the interests of pension contributors and retirees, and urged the public to report any suspicious activity related to pension matters.
