Senator Gabriel Suswam, a former governor of Benue State, has warned that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may cease to exist before the 2027 elections unless its leaders urgently address the party’s deepening crises.

Speaking on Arise TV’s The Morning Show, Suswam described the party as being in a critical state.

He said, “A lot of people are hanging on, waiting to see the ultimate end of this party,” reflecting the widespread loss of confidence among party members. The PDP is currently embroiled in a contentious battle over the national secretary position and has recently suffered defections, including prominent figures from Delta State who have joined the ruling APC.

Despite these challenges, Suswam expressed cautious optimism about the efforts of PDP governors and former governors, led by ex-Senate President Bukola Saraki, to rescue the party. “Whether there is light at the end of the tunnel in the efforts made by Senator Saraki will be seen in the next two weeks,” he said.

He likened the party’s condition to a patient in intensive care, saying, “Is it in the hospital? Yes. Is it in the ICU to some extent? Yes, it is. Can it be rescued? Yes, if the proper medicine is applied.” However, he warned that if these efforts fail, the party’s survival is doubtful.
