The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has secured victory in 15 out of 17 chairmanship positions in the recently concluded local government elections in Plateau State.

The results were announced on Thursday by Planji Cishak, Chairman of the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC), in Jos, the state capital.

The local government and councillorship elections took place on Saturday. However, according to Cishak, the results for Pankshin and Langtang-north local government areas (LGAs) have not yet been fully collated.

Cishak declared that the winners of the elections had met the legal requirements and were duly elected. He noted that the results for the councilorship seats would be made public at a later date.

This election comes in the wake of a July Supreme Court ruling, which mandated the federal government to allocate funds directly to local government councils from the federation account.

The ruling also allowed the federal government to withhold allocations from LGAs led by unelected officials. Since then, several state governments that had not conducted LG elections for years have moved to organize them.
