The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appointed Dayo Adeyeye as its national publicity secretary.

Adeyeye succeeds Olisa Metuh, who refused to contest for any office after his tenure expired.

Metuh is facing trial for receiving N400 million from the office of Sambo Dasuki, former national security adviser, in the buildup to the 2015 election.

Apart from Adeyeye, portfolios have also been assigned to members of the caretaker committee, who were not at the party’s last convention in Port Harcourt.

At the convention, Ahmed Makarfi, chairman of the committee, had said those who were absent will take their oath of office when the committee kick-off its activities.

Ben Obi, a former senator, is the party’s secretary. He was at the convention.

Aisha Aliyu is the new leader of women and youth. She takes over from Kema Chikwe, former minister of aviation.

Abdul Ningi is the new head of PDP organisation and Mobilisation, while Odion Ogbesia, is in charge of finance, treasury, and audit, and Kabir Usman, head of the legal unit.

According to Chinwe Nnorom, PDP’s head of publicity, the committee held its maiden meeting with staff of the party’s national secretariat and the Peoples Democratic Institute (PDI) on Thursdasy.

Nnorom said Makarfi reiterated the promise that the committee will not exceed the 3-month period given to it by the national convention to “reorganise, reform and conduct a free, fair, credible and all-inclusive convention”.
