The Ondo Police Command has launched an investigation into the disappearance of a two-month-old baby in Ode-Irele, located in the Irele Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The incident occurred around 9:00 PM on Monday at Gbeleju Quarters in Ode-Irele. Reports indicate that the baby’s mother (name withheld) briefly left her child with a two-year-old sibling while she went to a nearby shop to purchase some items. However, upon her return, the baby was missing, and the two-year-old sibling was unable to provide any substantial information regarding the baby’s whereabouts.

The mother raised an alarm, which quickly drew the attention of local residents. The news spread rapidly, causing panic in the community, and ultimately leading to protests in the area.

Police spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the situation, stating that an investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the disappearance.

Ayanlade also refuted rumors circulating that the father of the missing child had confessed to selling the baby. “Yes, I can confirm the case of the missing two-month-old baby in Ode-Irele, and the police have launched an investigation into the matter to uncover the circumstances surrounding it. I also want to refute the claim that the father of the baby has confessed to selling the baby; the investigation is not yet concluded, and the baby has not yet been found,” Ayanlade said.

Despite efforts by Journalists to obtain further information, the parents’ whereabouts remain unknown, as their house was locked and inaccessible.
