The Oyo State Government has stopped the payment of the West Africa Examination Council registration fees for candidates in public secondary schools in the state.

The state’s Head of Service, Mr. Soji Eniade, said this in a statement in Ibadan on Wednesday.

The state said the directive would take effect from the 2015/2016 academic session, blaming the present economic situation for the decision.

It stated that pupils in secondary schools in the state would start paying N3,000 per session, which will be paid in installments of N1,000 every term.

The fee is termed Education Development Levy.

It added that the levy would complement the state government’s effort at improving on the infrastructure of public secondary schools.

To aid administration and management of public secondary schools in the state, the statement said the government had completed plans to partner with interested stakeholders.
