Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has declared a three-day period of mourning in honor of the late Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja.

The mourning period, set to last from November 7 to 9, was announced in a statement by Oluomo Alimi, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment.

During this period, flags will be flown at half-mast across Osun State, as directed by the governor.

Additionally, condolence registers have been opened at the government house and the governor’s office to allow residents to pay tribute to the late army chief.

Describing Lagbaja’s passing as “devastating and a colossal loss to humanity and the nation,” Alimi emphasized that the contributions of the late army chief, a distinguished son of Osun State, will not be forgotten.

“The government is deeply saddened by this irreparable loss of one of Osun State’s most distinguished sons,” the statement read.

The governor extended condolences to the Lagbaja family of Ilobu, the Olobu of Ilobu, and all others affected by the tragic loss.

Alimi noted that the condolence registers provide an opportunity for residents to honor Lagbaja’s legacy.

“We especially extend our condolences to the Lagbaja family of Ilobu, the Olobu of Ilobu, and everyone affected. The condolence register allows people to share memories of him, honoring the legacy of the late COAS,” he added.

Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja passed away on Tuesday at the age of 56, following a battle with an undisclosed illness. Osun State has joined the nation in mourning one of its most esteemed sons, praying for his soul’s eternal rest.

“Once again, we pray God to grant Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, General Taoreed Lagbaja, Aljanna Firdaus. Ameen.”
