The Osun State chapter of the Hope Democratic Party has kicked against the recent selection and inauguration of Children’s parliament which took place in the state yesterday.

According to the release signed by the State Chairman of the party, Mr. Wole Adedoyin said “Our party is not satisfied with the selection process, only the children of the rich and the political class loyal to the governor of the state were selected.

Children of the poor masses were schemed out of the whole process. Some did not even know whether such parliament exists in the State.”

“It is shameful that the children of those who made it possible for the governor to return to Abeere the second term were denied their rights of participation.

What criteria did they use for the selection process? Why did they make the selection process secrete? Why did they not publicize the event for other children to participate? Why is it the inauguration that they made public why not the selection process? These are questions begging for answers.

There are thousands of intelligent children who are fit to represent the state but were denied participation because of their selfish interests.”

“From our research only those children whose parents are wealthy and influential were considered for the parliament. Even some Osun State community chiefs were not aware of the selection process. Such nomination should be competitive and democratic”.

The party further berated the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Affairs and the state government of Osun for organizing such undemocratic and uncivil event.

HDP however urged the organizers of the scheme to cancel it and organize a new one which will be democratic, well publicized and encompass all.
