The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Olabisi Onabanjo University branch today commenced an indefinite strike action.

The decision was arrived at a close door meeting of the union held today at the centre for transport studies which was presided over by the ASUU OOU Chairman, Dr. Deji Agboola.

” The congress reviewed all the updates including the meeting we had with the council and labour organisation”

he said.
He also said the explanation given is not satisfactory, that the council is still discussing with the government on the issue of funding.

Speaking further, Dr. Deji Agboola said the visitor(Governor Ibikunle Amosun) said on June 27, 2011 that he will fund the University once he has a council that he can trust. He opined that it is not that the government does not want to fund the institution but feels he did not trust the council he has constituted.

“It is not that the government do not want to fund the institution but because he didn’t trust the council he has constituted”

he said.
Dr. Agboola said having addressed the press on monday, having put up banner we felt the next thing is to embark on a total indefinite strike.
Speaking further, he said the strike can end tomorrow if the government is sincere and ready to meet demands of the union.

The ASUU Chairman therefore advised students to take up the challenge because the struggle is about them.
Disclosing further he said the council had agreement with the students that their school fees will be used for some laudable things, so students should start asking questions when these things are not seen.
