Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Yakubu Dogara, on Saturday, said there was no iota of truth in the report that he was planning to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The speaker equally described the claim as laughable, saying “I want to discountenance this very ludicrous and laughable discussion that some of us in the House are even conniving with some people so that we can defect. Only a fool will believe that.”

The speaker, who stated this when 25 APC state chairmen visited him in Abuja, added that he had no plan to defect to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
A statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Mr Turaki Hassan, noted that the  APC state chairmen were led by the acting chairman of the forum who is also the Kano state APC chairman, Alhaji Umar Doguwa.
The speaker said in the statement that: “We have toiled day and night. We control the government at the centre and in our states. Then do we pack and move back to a house that we deserted? It is even unthinkable and unimaginable for someone to make such insinuation.”
To this end, he gave the assurance that the APC would overcome the current crisis it’s facing, saying “we have been through a lot, but obviously, it is expected, as it is a new party. We are beginning to know ourselves. It is expected that from the beginning, we will have some kind of frictions, but we cannot be consumed by the frictions. And like vehicles, from the frictions, we can gather the traction that we need to move forward and I guess that is one reason we are here today.”
On party supremacy, the speaker said although he agreed that the party was supreme, absolute sovereignty and supremacy rested with the people.
Speaking earlier, Doguwa said they were in the speaker’s office to congratulate him and urged that he carry every member along in the running of the affairs of the House.
