Oba Joel Daudu of Iyani Akoko, Ondo state, who was kidnapped on Saturday, has been freed, four days after abduction.

Unknown gunmen abducted the royal father on Ikare-Owo Expressway, and placed N15 million ransom on him on Monday.

The abductors were later said to have called the family of the monarch and announced reduction of the ransom to N3 Million.

A source told Punch that the traditional ruler was released by the kidnappers at Ogbese in the Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State on Tuesday evening, more than 50km where he was abducted.

But the source did not disclosed if the ransom was paid before the monarch was set free.
Police confirmation

The Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Police Command, Femi Joseph, confirmed that the monarch had been set free unhurt.

”I can confirm that the monarch has been released but I don’t have the details yet. But he is in our custody now at the D.P.O’s office,” The PRO stated.

The state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, through his Chief Press Secretary, Segun Ajiboye, commended the security agencies in the state for the role played in the release of the traditional ruler.
