The Ondo State Government is set to revolutionize its revenue collection system with the implementation of a comprehensive digital platform, following a collaborative agreement with BBA Consult Ltd. The initiative aims to modernize tax and government-related payment processes, enhancing efficiency and transparency.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, speaking after a demonstration of the platform at the Governor’s office in Akure, reiterated the state’s commitment to leveraging innovation to improve revenue generation. He emphasized that the digital system will simplify tax payments for citizens while simultaneously boosting the state’s revenue.
“This platform will not only make tax payments more convenient but also significantly enhance our revenue collection,” Governor Aiyedatiwa stated. He added that the system will help curb revenue leakages, improve tax compliance, and establish a more accountable fiscal structure.
The governor outlined plans to reinvest the increased revenue into critical infrastructure development across the state. “With a more efficient and transparent tax system, we will have the financial capacity to invest in essential public services such as roads, healthcare facilities, and schools,” he explained.
He urged residents and businesses to embrace the digital platform, assuring them of its security, user-friendliness, and long-term benefits for the state’s economic growth.
Maryam Abisola, Director of BBA Consult Limited, detailed the platform’s features, highlighting that each taxpayer in Ondo State will be assigned a unique ID linked to their personal profile, which includes contact and address information. She assured that all taxpayer data will be kept confidential and accessible only to the individual.
Abisola explained that the platform streamlines tax payments and other government transactions, eliminating the inefficiencies associated with manual processes. A live demonstration showcased how the governor, as the first registered user, could easily generate and pay his annual tax bill.
The system offers multiple payment options, including card payments, bank transfers, USSD codes, and in-person payments at designated banks. Taxpayers receive digital receipts with unique verification codes, which can be authenticated by tax officials.
Beyond tax payments, the platform serves as a centralized hub for various government-related transactions, encompassing commerce and industry, land and housing, advertising, healthcare, natural resources, and education fees.
The consultant described the platform as a comprehensive solution that consolidates multiple payment processes into a single, user-friendly interface.
The demonstration was attended by key state officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Taye Fasoranti; Commissioner for Finance, Mrs. Omowumi Isaac; Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Olukayode Ajulo, SAN; and the Chairman of the Internal Revenue Service, Mr. Bayo Rojugbokan.
