The husband of former Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, is building a multi-billion naira state-of-the-art hospital in Abuja.

The world-class health care facility, named Capital Health and Surgical Care Centre, is being championed by the former minister’s husband, Ikemba and son, Uchechi, both medical doctors who will serve as chairman of the board and medical director respectively at the medical facility.

Speaking in a three-minute video posted on the hospital’s website,, Ikemba and his son, Uchechi, explained that the health facility was conceived to improve tertiary-level healthcare delivery in Nigeria and the West African sub region by providing top-rate service of international standard.

Iweala stated that the hospital’s architectural design was undertaken by Perkins + Will Global, a major player in the world’s architectural scene.

The hospital, according to him, will be equipped with 50 beds, three operating rooms, Magnetic Resonance Imaging and CT scan.

Iweala said, “Our mission is to provide affordable, good quality care to the population in Abuja, Nigeria and indeed, West Africa where medical services are lacking. So we contacted among others, architectural companies, Perkins and Will, who built the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts and they were very willing and eager to work with us.”
