Two parents have accused a private school in Arepo, Ogun State, of inflicting unauthorized incisions on their young children, leading to health complications.

Abosede, the mother of four-year-old Alamis, discovered an incision on his stomach on March 2nd after he complained of persistent itching. Three weeks later, he fell ill, and doctors confirmed the incision had caused an infection. She also learned another parent’s daughter had a similar mark.

Oluwatoyin Adurogboye noticed changes in her three-year-old daughter, Karla, after school on February 28th. Karla, who had recently recovered from malaria and an infection, became severely ill and was hospitalized with breathing difficulties. While hospitalized, Adurogboye noticed a mark on Karla’s spine. When questioned, Karla repeatedly mentioned “my teacher” and later said “aunty” put pepper on her back in the school bathroom.

Both mothers confirmed the marks were incisions and confronted the school’s proprietress, who denied any wrongdoing and suggested the children might have been injured elsewhere. When the parents requested CCTV footage, the proprietress claimed the cameras were not working. She also refused to allow Karla to identify the alleged perpetrator from among the school staff.

The parents reported the matter to the police, and during questioning, the proprietress again claimed the footage showed nothing. When asked to play the footage, she only showed a limited timeframe and gave conflicting explanations for missing footage.

Abosede’s family has taken legal action, while Karla’s parents are demanding a thorough investigation and access to the complete CCTV footage. The proprietress did not respond to calls, only sending a text promising a callback, which had not occurred at the time of reporting.
