Oba of Benin forbids wearing of beads in kingdom

The Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, has temporarily forbidden wearing of beads in his kingdom.

Victor Ogiemwanre, the secretary of Benin traditional council, disclosed this in a statement made available to Okay Nigeria on Wednesday.

The forbidding of wearing beads is part of a process for the celebration of a festival in the Benin kingdom.

The statement read:

“This is to inform Chiefs, Enigie, lgie-Ohen, Edionwere, market women, youths and the general public that His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, Oba of Benin will celebrate “Ugie Ivie” in the Oba Palace beginning from Tuesday, 14’h May, 2019 to Tuesday, 1 Ph June, 2019.”

“During the period or “Ugie-Ivie”, the wearing of beads is prohibited in Benin Kingdom, until after the ceremony.”

“This announcement therefore serves as notice to all concerned to ensure compliance, please.”
